Sustainable Health Systems
Our Public Health program supports the holistic model with four core initiatives: public health infrastructure, education curriculum, basic sanitation committee and the community health workers.
Public Health Infrastructure
Volunteers, masons and families work together to implement projects to improve health, hygiene and sanitation. Eco-stoves to target respiratory diseases, latrines and water filters to decrease the spread of infectious diseases and parasites, and water storage units and showers to improve hand washing and hygiene.
Education Curriculum
Education workshops for school children and community leaders are provided to empower them with the knowledge to take action and make positive behavioral changes. The curriculum addresses topics such as personal hygiene, healthy lifestyle, pollution and cleanliness.
Basic Sanitation Committee
To ensure long-term sustainability and maintenance, the Public Health program team trains and empowers local community leaders in the formation of a Basic Sanitation Committee. The Basic Sanitation Committee is responsible for carrying out in-home assessments and monitoring the status of the projects.
Community Health Workers/Entrepreneurs
Volunteers living in the community are trained by our staff to become Community Health Workers/Entrepreneurs (CHWs/CHEs). CHWs/CHEs provide basic medical care, monitor chronic conditions, and serve as point persons for urgent care cases year-round.
